The theme of the men’s college basketball season seems to be parity.
The No. 1 team in the country, the Tennessee Volunteers, is undefeated, but then there’s a mix of back-to-back and double-loss players, including Auburn and Duke, who remain at the top of the standings.
Auburn’s only loss of the season came at the hands of Duke. Duke lost to Kansas and Kentucky. Iowa State has one loss on the season to Auburn.
Houston and Alabama are on the line. Houston has losses to both Alabama and Auburn. Gonzaga is also in the game, but has lost to Kentucky and UConn.
UConn lost three straight games a few weeks ago, but has since won four in a row, including wins over Baylor, Texas and Gonzaga.
You see? Parity.
Sticking with UConn, the program hasn’t repeated three times since John Wooden’s UCLA Bruins won six in a row from 1967-1973.
Since then, programs that have won two straight titles include Duke (91-92), Florida (06-07) and the aforementioned UConn (23-24).
