Leipzig suffer blow as Henrichs set for surgery on Achilles rupture

Benjamin Heinrichs will be out for several months after needing surgery on a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered in Friday’s 5-1 thrashing by Bayern Munich.

The RB Leipzig wing-back was carried off on a stretcher against Bayern with a right leg injury.

Henriques will next go under the knife in Munich on Monday, signaling a significant injury blow for fourth-placed Leipzig heading into the mid-season break.

“The defender was tested on Saturday to confirm the diagnosis,” Leipzig posted on social media. “Come back stronger, Benny!”

The 27-year-old vowed to bounce back after suffering the first serious injury of his blossoming career.

“That loud noise, that pain, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone… But I know for sure that I can count on God,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I’m having surgery… I hope everything goes well.”

Heinrichs has impressed for Leipzig this term, making the most tackles for his club in Bundesliga action (32) and featuring in 15 top-flight games.

Marco Rose’s side are already without Netherlands playmaker Xavi Simmons and defender Castelo Lukebaek through injury, with Henriques the next addition to that list.
