Kluivert revels in Bournemouth´s ´beautiful´ Old Trafford triumph

Justin Kluivert was delighted with Bournemouth’s “beautiful” 4-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday, as the Cherries made it back-to-back wins at Old Trafford.

Kluivert scored from the penalty spot, Dean Huissen and Antoine Semenyo scored either side of his spot-kick to move Andoni Iraola’s side to within three points of the top four.

The Dutchman continued his fine scoring form for the Cherries, his 61st-minute strike his sixth of the season and his first since a penalty hat-trick against Wolves.

Bournemouth became only the second team to win consecutive league away games by 3+ goals (both 3-0) against United after Burnley in 1961 (4-1) and 1962 (5-2).

The Cherries have now won their last three away games in the league, their most since a four-match run in December 2023, which included victory over the Red Devils.

But they have had to work to win, producing an expected goals (xG) figure of just 1.63 from their 10 attempts compared to United’s 2.28 from their 23 attempts.

Bournemouth are seemingly riding the crest of a wave under Iraola, sitting fifth in the Premier League table and Kluivert couldn’t hide his excitement after the full-time whistle.

“It’s a huge win,” Kluivert told Sky Sports. “A come from behind win in a beautiful stadium is fantastic. It is unreal.

“We are working hard, and building on the same plan. It’s amazing with the coach, and with the players we can do beautiful things, as you saw today.

“Our philosophy, how we want to play, full pressure, a lot of energy in games. That’s why we score in every match. That is our strength.

“We just try to keep cruising like this. Up the cherry, Merry Christmas!”
