Lazio 1-1 Atalanta: Brescianini goal helps visitors stay top of Serie A

Atalanta’s 11-match winning streak in Serie A ended with a 1-1 draw against Lazio on Saturday, although Gian Piero Gasperini’s side remain a point clear at the top of the Italian top division.

Marco Brescianini came off the bench to equalize for the visitors in the 88th minute when Ademola turned in a cutback from Lookman.

The home side went ahead in the 27th minute when Fisio Dele-Bashiru threaded a through ball from Niccolo Rovella over the Atalanta defense and slotted past goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi.

Atalanta sit top of the table with 41 points from 18 matches, but are just one point behind defending champions Inter with a game in hand, after they beat Cagliari 3-0 earlier on Saturday.

After Dele-Bashiru found the opener in the first half, there were chances at both ends of the field before substitute Brescianini salvaged a point for the front-runners.

Meanwhile, Lazio is fourth with 35 points, while Napoli is third with 38 points.

Atalanta next face Inter in the Italian Super Cup semi-finals in Saudi Arabia on January 2.

Data Debrief: Atlanta Closes Out Fantastic 2024

Despite the draw ending their 11-match winning run in Serie A, Atalanta will look back on the calendar year with satisfaction.

In May, they beat Bayer Leverkusen 3–0 to win the Europa League under Gasperini, courtesy of a Lookman hat-trick.

Atlanta recorded both their record number of wins (36) in a single calendar year since the 1929–30 season and their record number of goals (127) in 2024.

Their 41-point tally after 18 games in Serie A this season is also four points more than they have collected in any other season in the Italian top-flight.
