Philip Clement says he is “not worried” about his immediate Rangers future, despite his side finishing 14 points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic in the title race.
Rangers were forced to come from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Motherwell on Sunday, with substitute Hamza Igamon’s brace sealing a share of the spoils at Fear Park.
On the back of the loss to St Mirren on Boxing Day, the Gores endured a difficult first half, managing just one shot from the seven targets they attempted.
As Clement and his players entered the changing room, the traveling support made their feelings known as they left the field booing the team.
Rangers probably deserved more than a point for their performance, finishing the competition with a total of 1.93 Expected Goals (xG) from their 23 attempts at full-time.
Celtic, meanwhile, comfortably beat St Johnstone 4-0, widening their lead at the summit ahead of Thursday’s meeting with the Old Firm at Ibrox.
But when asked about his immediate future after their latest setback at Rangers, Clement was confident he had the board’s backing going forward.
“No, I’m not worried about it because I’m only busy with the team,” he said. “We knew before the season what the project was and what the challenge would be.
“It’s hard to talk about because you don’t understand and outsiders don’t either.
“But there has been an evolution. The last two games certainly haven’t. And we hurt ourselves that way. But there have been good games in the last few weeks, where the team has shown potential.
“Already some teams are interested in some players for the future, which we haven’t had in the last two years. So, we’re making strides, but you can’t talk about that after dropping points against St Mirren and Motherwell, I know.
“We have to work hard in the coming days to be more resilient and resolute in these protective measures. It’s going to be a part of the game but also with the ball, of course.”
