Julen Lopetegui apologized to West Ham fans after their 5-0 defeat by Liverpool at the London Stadium.
The Spaniard has been under pressure of late after a difficult start to his tenure, although he has redeemed himself somewhat with a four-match unbeaten streak.
However, the Hammers’ resurgence came to a screeching halt against the Premier League leaders, who eased to a comfortable victory.
With West Ham trailing 3-0 at half-time, boos echoed around the London Stadium as the players left the field.
Things didn’t improve after the break for the hosts, and Lopetegui sympathized with the fans’ frustrations, as he vowed to bounce back.

West Ham have now scored more Premier League goals than any other team in 2024, with 79 goals their most in a single calendar year since 1967 (85).
They sit 13th in the table after 19 games and could drop further if Manchester United beat Newcastle United on Monday.
“It was definitely a bad day for us,” Lopetegui told Sky Sports. “Fans are always right, and we understand them.
“We are trying to do our best every day, to be able to be a good team. We have to do better in matches like this at home.
“We have played really well in the last four games. Today is a bad day and we need to recover.
“Today is the day to say sorry to the fans, and tomorrow to work hard and wait.”
“I think we played against the best team today [in the Premier League]”He added on West Ham’s official website. “We are disappointed above all for our fans.
“I think you can lose, but you should do more [than we did today]. These kinds of teams make a lot of demands on you, and we didn’t meet those demands.”
