Omar Marmoush joins Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt

Omar Marmoush has completed his move to defending Premier League champions Manchester City from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Manchester City’s fee is £59 million plus add-ons for the striker, who is seen by many as a replacement for Julian Alvarez who left for Atletico Madrid in the summer.

The Egyptian international has penned a four-and-a-half-year deal at the Etihad Stadium and is the club’s third January signing after Bhitar Reiss and Abdukodir Khusanov.

Marmausch arrives at the club having scored 15 goals in 17 Bundesliga appearances this season, having been with Frankfurt for just 18 months after signing on a free transfer from Werder Bremen in July 2023.

The 25-year-old can operate anywhere across the front three and, having also registered nine assists, has been involved in more goals than any other player in the Bundesliga this season (24).

Talking about the move, he was clearly excited to step up to a bigger challenge.

“I’m very happy to be here,” he said. “Manchester City has been one of the biggest clubs in the world for the last 10 years, so it wasn’t a question.

“It’s an honor that the club showed interest in me and now I’m here. The last two seasons have been great, but this is just the beginning for me.

“I have played many positions. I mostly play left wing for the national team. At my former club, I played number 9, sometimes 10 and sometimes even eight.

“I’ve also played on the right wing, so I think I can play in all positions, but I’m most comfortable in the number 10 position behind the striker where the path to goal is quicker – or should I say – so I’m comfortable in all positions.

“My main strength I would say is that I always want to win – that’s from a character point of view.

“On the pitch, I’m quick, good on the ball, I try to see where the spaces are and exploit the spaces – and I’m dangerous.”
