Daryl Gurney advances to the third round of the competition in 2025 PDC World Darts Championships he holds back Florian Hempel in the process which usually makes him own the stage and seems to be on his way to victory.
Gurney came back from the set twice to claim the victory and avoid a tiebreak. He averaged 98.3, five 180s and 45% in doubles. He will then face Jonny Clayton for a place in the fourth round just after Christmas.

Hempel struck early, winning the first set 3-1, scoring two 180 points and averaging 103. But Superchin remained on the coattails. He sealed the second set in style, calling 156 to restore parity.
At that time, he had a 99.3 average and the game was still going on. However, Hempel started to take the lead and took the third set in three straight games to take a 2-1 lead. He scored three 180s and an average of 99. But there was no turn in the tail yet.
Gurney missed out on 121 for the bull and Hempel came back again and made a brilliant 64 for a double eight at 2-2.
However, although Hempel seemingly had the advantage, he was unable to break Gurney’s throw as he held it and sent him to the deciding set, where Hempel had the throw.
However, Hempel was broken and started the decisive set. Gurney hit double 12 with his last dart and suddenly moved away from victory. Hempel was 156 short on double 18 but came back.
Now he needed a break to force overtime. Gurney was 96 goals away from the match, Hempel was two from winning and ‘Superchin’ came back to claim the victory and avoid overtime.
