Liverpool captain Virgil van Dyck Insists there is “no deadline” on his contract situation.
The Netherlands international’s current contract expires in the summer and he will be able to negotiate with foreign clubs at the end of the season from next week.
However, it is understood that the 33-year-old prefers to stay at Anfield and the player himself is simply focused on a campaign that has seen them top the Premier League and Champions League tables.
“There is no time limit. We’ll see what the future brings. Is there an update? No,” he told reporters after the 6-3 win over Tottenham.
Van Dijk is one of three key players whose contracts are entering their final six months, with Trent Alexander-Arnold And Mohamed Salah others
After scoring twice against Spurs, Salah moved into fourth place on Liverpool’s all-time scorers list with 229 and his tally was very much in line with the 44 times he netted in his first season at the club (2017-18).
He currently has 18 this term, including 15 in the Premier League – two clear of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland – and also has 15 assists.
He is comfortably the leading player in Europe’s top five leagues in terms of overall contribution, second to Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush with 29.

Virgil van Dijk in his contract negotiations
Van Dijk hopes the Egypt international, who will turn 33 in the summer, can have his best season for the club.
“The numbers speak for themselves,” he added.
“He is a very special athlete. He has done amazingly for the club and hopefully he can have his best ever season for the club, be key and clinical with his goals and assists.
“He is a professional. We’ve been there, he’s been there, so next game. And next season? I don’t know.”
