Ricardo Pietreczko qualified for the last 32 PDC World Darts Championships for the second year in a row. “Pikachu” was too strong Gian van Veen in the second round on Monday night, winning 3-1, and will now face last year’s semifinalist Scott Williams.
“I’m over the moon that I can win this match. It is very important for me to stay in the third round after Christmas.” “Pikachu” later said during a conversation with the gathered media at the Alexandra Palace. “Gian is a really great player, he’s in the top 32 of the league and he’s had a great year. So it’s really nice to beat him and win this match.”

Given the huge number of German fans who come to Ally Pally every year, Pietreczko could count on vocal support during the match. “The crowd was great,” he beams. “I love the atmosphere at Alexandra Palace, it drives me to perform well.”

Pietreczko is still the only German taking part in the World Darts Championships. “I will do everything I can to be the best German and yes, I think it is really important for me to continue to take part in the World Championships,” he says.
The 30-year-old German matches his results from last year, when he also reached the third round of the World Darts Championship. “I learned a lot last year (losing 4-3 to the eventual champion Luke Humphries ed.). I have more experience and I can now show it next time.”
