Mykhailo Mudric will “disconnect” from Chelsea as the winger awaits the conclusion of a Football Association (FA) investigation into a failed drugs test.
The Ukraine international was provisionally suspended by the Blues last week after a routine drug test in October returned a positive “A” sample.
ESPN reports that the banned substance found was meldonium, which was given to Mudric while he was out of the United Kingdom.
Mudrik responded to the positive test by announcing in an Instagram post that he was “shocked,” stressing that he “never used a banned substance to report.”
The 23-year-old could face a lengthy ban if found guilty and Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca said he would take some time off during the investigation.
“At the moment it’s also good that he can disconnect a bit from the situation,” Maresca said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s Boxing Day meeting with Fulham.
“The last time I spoke to him, we tried to support him but at this point we are waiting.”
