Luke Woodhouse easily qualified for the second round of the World Darts Championships at Alexandra Palace. Only three sets were needed to ship ‘The Shed’ Lawrence Ilagan back to the Philippines.
Ilagan is an experienced force at the World Championships. He was allowed to start for the ninth time, but “The Gunner” has not had the best streak in London. Ilagan failed to make it past the first round for the eighth time in nine editions. The result was disappointing, and the doubles wasn’t the best either. Woodhouse, on the other hand, had a solid game, averaging 94 points with 45% in doubles.
The first set ended with a 3-0 win for Woodhouse, who recorded 14 and 13 darters. In the second set, Ilgan missed a dart on a double 10 to take the lead, before Woodhouse immediately forced a break via a double 8.

Bewdley’s ace doubled the lead with a 14-darter and secured the set, finishing at 115 after Ilagan had missed three more doubles. There was no flawless whitewash as Ilagan scored a beautiful 103 points in the second half of the third set. Woodhouse then made it 2-1 before Ilagan forced a tie with a 15-darter in the third set. However, in the fifth game, Ilagan narrowly failed to complete the treble before Woodhouse opted to play a 14-darter.
Woodhouse will make her next appearance at the World Darts Championships in London on Tuesday afternoon. “The Shed” will next face Mike de Decker, who had a bye in the opening round.
