Sports promoter Barry Hearn raises awareness of prostate cancer

It is supporting Paddy Power’s Big 180 campaign, which aims to encourage 180,000 men to assess whether they are at risk.

NHS guidelines state that the risk of developing prostate cancer increases with age, with most cases developing in men over the age of 50.

Men whose father or brother has had prostate cancer are at slightly higher risk themselves.

Prostate Cancer UK chief executive Laura Kerby said she was “thrilled” with the campaign’s success so far.

She said: “We are also proud that this life-changing campaign has reached the very top of the PDC and we thank Barry Hearn for speaking so openly about his health problems.

“It’s amazing that since the start of this year’s campaign, over 85,000 people have already completed our simple online risk checker… there’s no doubt that we’re making a huge impact through the darts community.”
