Noa-Lynn van Leuven made history on Alexandra Palace this December. The 28-year-old Dutchwoman was the first transgender athlete to ever take part in the PDC World Darts Championships. However, she was unable to celebrate the occasion with a victory, losing 3-1 in the first round to her compatriot Kevin Doets.
Van Leuven has been in the spotlight for a long time. Not only did she win the PDC Challenge Tour and PDC Women’s Series tournaments in 2024, but she also made the news because her teammates Anca Zijlstra and Aileen de Graaf of the Netherlands women’s national team no longer wanted to play with her. “You’re a dude! What the hell,” one comment reads. Someone else writes: “Die, you shitty thing!”
But sometimes it goes even further than that. “You are a man. You will never become a woman, stop insulting our real women. Look up the word suicide in the dictionary and follow the instructions,” writes one of the women.
