Hearts 1-2 Hibs: What’s changed for David Gray & Easter Road club?

It wasn’t all plain sailing, with Hibs having to recover from the first half to see off Ross County, but the following wins at Aberdeen and Hearts were thoroughly meritorious and featured some fine spells.

The Easter Road side have not won three in a row for over a year.

“We played really well and limited them to very few chances,” Gray said after the 2-1 success at Tynecastle.

“Maybe we could have been a little more clinical. I thought, in the first half, we were great.

“To go 1-1, as good as we were, especially away from home, the players could have reacted really negatively after that.”

And that might just be the biggest difference.

Hibs players were rather sorry for themselves during the November defeats to St Mirren and Dundee but showed a much improved attitude to not accept defeat at Aberdeen.

Unity and determination go a long way in football and it looks like Gray is pulling his team in the same direction after a sticky start with individual errors and a collective nervousness.

“I’m delighted for him,” former Hibs manager John Collins told SportsWound of the current boss.

“He was getting so much stick left, right and center. He was maybe one play away from the sack. All managers need a little time and patience.”
