My recent results are not what I wished for

Michael van Gerwen Since 2019, he has been trying unsuccessfully to win his fourth world title. However, despite his poor form this year, the 35-year-old Dutchman still believes he will be ready for the top by the time he plays at Alexandra Palace. Van Gerwen will make his first appearance at this year’s World Championships on Friday, December 20.

For Van Gerwen, the importance of the World Darts Championship is unquestionable. “It’s the biggest tournament of the year. Everyone is looking forward to it, especially me,” says Van Gerwen to a PDC representative official website. “I haven’t prepared well so far, but there are still a few weeks left so a lot can change in that time, but I feel good and that’s the most important thing.”

“The stakes are high for all of us – the World Championship is bigger than ever before, so I have to make sure I’m ready for it,” the three-time world champion continued, emphasizing that the current run of surprising major winners won’t continue at the World Championship. “I think you will see more familiar faces at this year’s World Championships. You can’t compare the World Cup with any other tournament. It’s different emotions, different pressure, different atmosphere, it’s different because it’s the most important league tournament of the year, so it should be different!”

“MVG” also believes that the fact that he has been there and done that on the Ally Pally stage may stand him in good stead. “My experience could be really important,” he notes. “But the most important thing for me is that my preparations went well.”

Van Gerwen, who starts in third place, will face the winner of the fight between James Hurrell and Jim Long in the second round. Although “Mighty Mike” did not win any important title this year, he still believes in a good result at Alexandra Palace.

“I don’t have to deny that my recent results haven’t been what I expected, but you have to make sure that all your attention is in the right direction,” Van Gerwen concludes. “All my eyes are on the World Cup and I will work really hard to be ready for my first match.”
