World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will miss next month’s The Sentry event due to an accidental stab wound to his right hand that he suffered on Christmas Day.
Scheffler is expected to be sidelined for several weeks with an injury and the 2025 season will begin at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii.
“On Christmas Day, while preparing dinner, Scottie suffered a stab wound to the palm of his right hand from broken glass,” Scheffler’s manager, Blake Smith, said in a statement provided by the PGA Tour.
“There were small fragments of glass left in my hand that required surgery. He was told he should be back to full fitness in three to four weeks.
“Unfortunately he will have to withdraw from The Sentry. His next scheduled tournament will be The American Express.”
It marks a disappointing start to the New Year after a blockbuster 2024 for Scheffler, who retained his No. 1 ranking in the world throughout the season and was named PGA Tour Player of the Year for the third consecutive year.
Scheffler won the Olympic gold medal, defended the Players Championship and won the Masters for a second time, capping it off with a season-long FedExCup title.
