World No. 1 Scotty Scheffler has withdrawn from the PGA Tour’s 2025 season-opening tournament after injuring his hand while preparing dinner on Christmas Day.
The Sentry takes place Jan. 2-5 at the Kaplua Plantation Course in Maui, Hawaii, but the 2024 FedExCup Champion has been canceled for three to four weeks.
Scheffler successfully defended his title at Hero World Challenge earlier this month but will now require surgery for the incident.
“While preparing dinner on Christmas Day, Scotty sustained a puncture wound to his right palm from a piece of broken glass,” his manager Blake Smith shared in a statement.
“Small pieces of glass remained in the palm of the hand which required surgery.
“He’s been told he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he’s going to have to withdraw from Sentry.”
Scheffler’s next scheduled tournament is the American Express in California on January 16-19.
The 28-year-old became the first player to win The Players, The Masters and FedExCup in the same season.
