Jermaine Watttimena lost in last 32 games in 2025 PDC World Darts Championships on Friday evening from the hands Peter Wright. Due to his good form in recent weeks, “The Machine Gun” was actually the favorite before the match against the two-time world champion, but the Scot hit the jackpot and, despite a chest infection, won 4-2 in sets.
Wattimana later admitted that his opponent “beat him on value.” The Dutchman did not want to use Wright’s health as an excuse. “Of course, it didn’t impress me and that shouldn’t be an excuse,” Wattimena honestly reflected in an interview with Viaplay. “Just look at his finishes, they were surprisingly good. This also needs to be said.”

Wright has struggled with his form in 2024 but unfortunately for Wattimena he played one of his better games of the season on Friday night at the Stadium Alexandra Palace. “It’s the World Darts Championships and you never know which Peter Wright will show up,” Wattimana said of his opponent’s surprisingly good level. “His finishing was fantastic.”
Wattimena kept trying and managed to take the set each time after trailing 2-0 and 3-1, but then couldn’t push through and finish the match in what would have been an epic comeback. “You just have to stand there. But I think we can praise Peter, who just played a great match. Everyone wrote him off after the last quarter, but against me he was simply fantastic,” sums up the Dutchman with class. “He beat me with value. I miss a few little chances and darts in some doubles. But to be honest, his finishes were just weird.”
It is worth noting that Wright now has the unenviable task of facing reigning world champion and world number one Luke Humphries in the last 16 events.
