It was a very tough match

After a tough match against Brendan Dolan, Michael van Gerwen qualified for the last sixteen in 2025 PDC World Darts Championships in London on Saturday evening. “Mighty Mike” lifted his spirits after a strong start for Dolan, eventually winning 4-2 against his Northern Irish opponent.

A good friend Vincent van der Voort he saw that Van Gerwen didn’t have it easy in the match against The History Maker. “It was a very difficult match. Fortunately, he won. His preparations didn’t go well, it’s nice that he managed to turn the situation around,” Van der Voort analyzed in the Darts Draait Door podcast.

Dolan started the match strongly and won the first set 3-2. “After the first set, I was nervous. The shots were placed incorrectly, Van der Voort thought. However, after the break, Van Gerwen managed to win nine of the next 10 games and turn a 0-1 deficit into a 3-1 lead.

“But it was great class in the second set and then he continued it well in the third and fourth sets. Then he stepped back a bit. The last one has to go,” Van der Voort referred to Van Gerwen’s fifth set.

As a result, Dolan returned to 3-2 and had one more chance to win the deciding set. “He’s really tough,” Van der Voort said of the Northern Irish darts player. “But the way Michael plays in the third and fourth sets makes the difference, especially when it comes to shooting. However, it has dynamics. Everything indicates that he will play better and better.”

On Monday evening, Van Gerwen can continue his hunt for a fourth world title at Alexandra Palace in London. The 35-year-old from the Netherlands will next face the winner of the match between Jeffrey de Graaf and Paolo Nebrida in the fourth round of the World Darts Championship.
