Three years in a row, Beau Greaves climbed to the top of women’s darts in WDF World Championships On Lake without another winner since joining from BDO.
She handed it over Sophia McKinlay the night’s second final loss to the 18-year-old Scot, who had been defeated earlier in the evening by Paige Pauling in the girls’ final. This continues to show the dominance of Greaves, who also leads on the other side of a sharp divide in the PDC.
However, he did not play in the Ally Pally since the PDC banned those who qualified from both tournaments from playing in both. Since then, he has sided with the WDF, but the question remains whether he will change direction one year.
However, she dominated this week as she admitted she’s not the most happy with the way her game is currently. After losing the first set, it was Greaves who was in the best form.
McKinlay became the first player to overtake Greaves in this year’s World Championships. She punished four missed sets from the two-time champion and won 3-2. But Greaves accelerated from there.
She equalized after the first break, winning the second set 3-0 with a pair of 17-darters and 16-darters. Greaves had six straight games before taking a 3-0 lead in the third set. McKinlay put his foot on the board to stop the rot, but Greaves was closing in on the title quickly. She went up 3-1 in the race to four, playing 15, 14 and 18 darts with her legs to end the set 3-1.
Greaves was 104 points short in the first set of the fifth set, but McKinlay was far behind and Greaves led 1-0. She hit the box office with a score of 84 to move one down and broke through to bat in front in the match. McKinlay, however, broke away and Greaves was unable to complete the victory. But in the next over she made it with an 89 on the bullpen and McKinlay was ready to send it to the end.
