Milan coach Fonseca ´not afraid of anything´ amid sack speculation

Milan coach Paolo Fonseca played down growing speculation over his future after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Roma.

After the game, reports quickly appeared in the Italian media that Milan would sack Fonseca, who had only taken over earlier in the season.

Milan are eighth in Serie A and 12th in the Champions League.

“Did I have a difficult meeting with Zlatan?” Asked if he had spoken to the club’s senior adviser and former player Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Fonseka said.

“No, I didn’t talk to anyone. I didn’t see anyone from the club. Can’t say more than that. I can’t make things up that didn’t happen.”

“I have never been afraid of football in my life. And I will continue like this. It is important for me to always have a clear conscience: I work, I am honest with those who work with me. I’m not afraid of anything.”

Fonseca says he plans to lead Milan to the Supercopa Italiana semi-final against Juventus in Riyadh.

“I hope so, I have no signs to the contrary. Now I’m going home, I’ll watch the game, then think about work,” he added.

He said he has no regrets about the job he has done at Milan since taking over from Stefano Pioli in June.

Fonseca was sent off in Sunday’s match for complaining about Milan’s decision not to award a penalty after goalscorer Tijani Reiszonders went down inside Roma’s box.

“I was exaggerated in my protest at that moment, but I don’t want to say anything. It’s a very clear situation for me,” Fonseca told DAZN.
