Sublime Stephen Bunting breezes past Luke Woodhouse to reach PDC World Darts Championship Quarter-Finals

A fan favorite who has emerged as one of the main title contenders, Stephen Bunting reached the quarterfinals of the 2025 tournament PDC World Darts Championships and will face Peter Wright on New Year’s Day.

Bunting beat Luke Woodhouse, who was having his best performance of the PDC World Darts Championships, but was well beaten 4-0, with ‘The Bullet’ averaging 95, hitting six 180s and a 41% high save rate erasure rate of 41%.

This is the fourth PDC World Darts Championship quarter-final for Bunting, who started a brutally good whitewash with a superb opening salvo. He won the first set in three straight games with a high check of 121 and took the lead.

Woodhouse had no complaints about Bunting as he quickly took the lead in straight sets, winning six games out of seven and quickly doubling his advantage with two 180s and an average of 100 in that time for a 2-0 lead.

Woodhouse looked brighter when he was awarded 150 points, but it was still only a consolation as Bunting built an advantage to take a 3-0 lead and one away from victory.

The lack of doubles darts in the final set of the match turned into frustration for Woodhouse as Bunting took the lead with a 19-darter. Woodhouse missed 72 but came back and Bunting was unable to secure the lead.

But after 74 points were missed, Bunting hit 16 twice for a 2-1 lead and then served out after consecutive missed chances. It will be like that with Woodhouse at times, but Bunting was in excellent form.

Wright showed against Humphries that he is still a force to be reckoned with, but Bunting would no doubt prefer to face ‘Snakebite’ given that unlike ‘Cool Hand Luke’ he has not shown any sustained form. We’ll find out soon in the New Year.
