Just because he finished in the last eight doesn’t mean Aspinall is smiling though, as the former Matchplay World Champion even threatened to go after Joe Cullen at the post-match press conference, calling out what he felt was a lack of respect from the media .
“You all underestimate me. I never got any respect,” Aspinall explains with a wry smile. “I won’t spoil Joe Cullen here, but I’m always written off, no one ever talks about me, and I’m a two-time major champion and a fantastic darts player. I’ve been through so much, fighting and constantly proving people wrong. It’s up to me to get on this stage and prove that those who write me off are very wrong.

However, it seems Aspinall is no longer worried about the perceived lack of respect and is determined to let his darts do the talking. “I’ll do my thing, I’m done with it. I have a fantastic life. My family is struggling at the moment, I make money playing darts, I’m just going to go there and have fun.”
