Stephen Bunting sent a statement on Monday evening in which he convincingly qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2025 championship PDC World Darts Championships. “Kula” defeated his compatriot Luke Woodhouse 4-0 in the last 16 and now face a rematch Peter Wright.
A rampant Bunting lost only three legs throughout the match against Woodhouse, much to the delight of the ‘Bunting Army’ at a packed Alexandra Palace. “To be in the quarter-finals of the biggest tournament in the world is a huge honor,” Bunting announced proudly at the post-match press conference. “I feel really fresh and really confident, I’ve never played in an atmosphere like this before. I believe these fans can take me all the way.”

Bunting prepared for the World Darts Championships by completing several training sessions with both competitors Luke Humphries and Łukasz Littler. Although the pre-tournament route to the final would have included beating them both, after Humphries’ shock exit to Bunting in the quarter-finals, Peter Wright now awaits.
“I focus on one game at a time, one foot at a time, one dart at a time, one shot at a time. There’s no point in thinking about who I’m going to play with because all sorts of things happen,” explains Bunting. “Luke didn’t win. He’s the best player in the world, he’s unbelievable, but Peter, who has a 70% success rate in doubles, played a fantastic match. In fact, I expected to play with Luke during our training sessions. we talked about playing in the quarterfinals. I kept my end of the bargain and unfortunately Luke just didn’t keep his word. It wasn’t for lack of trying.

In fact, Humphries and Bunting have spoken since the former’s departure from Ally Pally and Bunting believes he is the man ‘Cool Hand Luke’ wants to succeed on January 3 and lift the Sid Waddell Trophy.
“I talked to him this morning [Monday] and wished me good luck, he said that he would be happy to give me the crown and give me his World Championship. It means a lot to me. He is my great friend. We will continue to practice after this tournament,” Bunting reveals. “I know I can go all the way, it’s about doing it.”
