Łukasz Małyr had an outstanding debut season on the PDC Pro Tour. After bursting onto the scene at the recent World Darts Championships, the teenage sensation earned over £1 million in prize money. A lesser success is now the 17-year-old’s recognition outside the sport of darts.
Already one of the favorites to become the first darter to ever win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, Littler is now in the final three of the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year shortlist. “It was an amazing year, and participation in the Young Sports Personality of the Year competition is its culmination,” says Littler in quotes collected by BBC Sport. “If I attract more fans to darts, that’s all that matters to me.”
During the year, Littler won ten PDC titles, including the Premier League Darts, the Grand Slam of Darts and the World Series of Darts finals. ‘The Nuke’ also achieved a record four hits with nine darts this year, en route to earning over £1m in prize money in 2024 and rising to 4th place in the PDC Order of Merit rankings, despite only having one year in rolling two-year ranking system.
Littler’s remaining competition for the award includes 16-year-old Olympic bronze medal-winning skateboarder Sky Brown and 18-year-old para swimmer William Ellard, who won three medals, including two golds at the Paris Olympics.
The winner will be announced live on BBC Sports Personality of the Year on Tuesday, December 17, and UK viewers will be able to watch the action and see if Littler wins the famous BBC Sports Personality of the Year and BBC Young Sports Sports Personality of the Year double on the BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 19:00 GMT.
