This is a double bill statement Shane McGuirk AND François Schweyen going through to the quarter-finals as the first two in 2024 WDF World Championships On Lake.
McGuirk posted a third consecutive 90-point average as the Irishman passed fourth seed Brandon Weening for a place in the last 16.
He started the match by winning the first set with just 47 shots 3-0 against the Australian. Weening got on the board in the second set, but McGuirk continued to dominate.
He sealed the second set with an 11-darter, continuing to dominate and cruise to victory. Weening started the final set with a 10-darter of 180, 141 and 140, followed by a double 20. McGuirk tied the game with an 18-darter, hitting a double 18. Weening tied the score, but McGuirk was on his way to sealing the victory.
While Schweyen defeated Brian Raman in the All-Belgian singles match, a brilliant fight between two of the country’s best players saw him break 145 points in the deciding set.
He punished his compatriot Brian Raman for a set dart to win the opening set, scoring double 20 for the 13-darter in the deciding match. Raman equalized going into the break, increasing his score from 180 to 4 and sealing the second set with 72 points for double 20.
Raman finished with a high-quality third set, responding to Schweyen’s 152 shots with pins on darts 14 and 13. The fourth set ended in a toss and Schweyen started at 100 points before winning the deciding match at double 20 to advance to the fifth and final set.
Schweyen went up again in the final set, shooting a 78 to start the set and hit a break shot. He kept the shot pinning 80 after hitting 180 with a 15-darter. A weak leg caused him to almost win the match, but Schweyen hit 145 to seal the victory.
