My son is his biggest fan… Hopefully he doesn’t wear his Peter Wright shirt

In the evening session of today’s action for 2025 PDC World Darts Championships, Stephen Bunting AND Peter Wright fight for a place in the semi-finals. As two crowd favorites go to war, which one will be able to maintain their hope of winning the Sid Waddell Trophy on January 3?

With Wright and Bunting, two former world champions face each other (Wright, a two-time PDC world champion, Bunting, a former BDO world champion). But his match with Wright has another special meaning for Bunting. “Honestly, my oldest son, Toby, is his biggest fan. I hope he won’t wear Peter Wright’s shirt,” he admitted to The Bullet before the match. “I’ve known Peter for a long time. He sent Toby some darts equipment. He’s his biggest fan – I’m sure he won’t be when we play.

Bunting and Wright also get along great. “I have a good relationship with Peter. I have a lot of respect for what he has done for the sport, being a two-time world champion. But this is about me,” he continues. “When I first came to PDC, I used to beat him up a lot. When I was worse, he started beating me often. He’s a good friend, but on this stage, playing for big money, you want to rip his head off.”

Wright rolled back the years and caused a major upset in the previous round, beating reigning world champion Luke Humphries 4-1 with an impeccable performance. The 54-year-old Scot has had a very disappointing 2024, but can ‘Snakebite’ hit his peak form at the right time?

“Peter Wright is one of the best players in the world. I expect him to introduce the version of Peter that knocked out Luke. I hope this happens,” Bunting concludes. “It won’t be a coup. But it doesn’t matter what anyone else does. Everything depends on me. Who will be supporting the fans? Everyone will go to see “Bunting Mental”.
