“I see myself as maybe an older brother”

Nathan Aspinall he had a difficult year plagued by injuries and struggled to reach his best level. However, at the 2025 PDC World Championships, the 33-year-old Englishman shows signs of improvement and enters the quarter-finals. Tonight he will face the favorite for the world title, Łukasz Małyr.

Aspinall, who is part of the same management, gets along quite well with Littler. “I see myself as maybe a big brother in the darts world. He’s a nice kid. He doesn’t have many friends on the route because many people envy him – I don’t – “The Asp” speaks warmly about his quarterfinal opponent. “I appreciate what he did for the game, what he did for himself and his family. I think he’s a fantastic darts player. And the way he dealt with the media at the age of 17… I don’t think many adults could have done what he did hat to the guy – but I’m still going to smash him on New Year’s Day!”

Despite reaching the last eight, Aspinall has yet to hit top gear at this World Championship. However, as already mentioned, the level he has shown so far has been more than enough to easily qualify for the quarter-finals. He defeated Leonard Gates, Andrew Gilding and Ricardo Pietreczko, and this year at Alexandra Palace he lost only one set.

“Clearly I’m playing total nonsense and according to social media I’ve had enough,” he says sharply. “I had to have a completely different New Year’s Eve this year – I usually have the party at home, but this time it’s at the practice board with Chris Dobey. I love being the underdog, it motivates me.”
