However, during his career, Van der Voort received nicknames such as “Fast Vinny” and “The Dutch Destroyer”. He didn’t like it though. “When you played war outside, you had a nickname. When you grow up at some point, you stop doing it. Such things are not for me,” he laments. “Grease Lightning. I thought that was the worst. Come on, man. Since I never did anything with it, they just kept looking for other names until they thought I liked them.”

Kevin Doetswho played against Michael Smith at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championships and ultimately made the final 16, is nicknamed “The Hawk”. “Because he’s so focused. And aren’t all the other darters? NO? Well, then he clearly deserves the nickname,” Van der Voort cannot hide his dislike.
One of the greatest Dutch talents, Wessel Nijmanby the way, still waiting for a nickname. “Then we pick one and start calling it that,” laugh Van der Voort and podcast presenter Damian Vlottes. “We’re forcing him to adopt that nickname.”
