Two days after his first world title, it’s starting to hit him Łukasz Małyr what a feat he had accomplished. At 17, he is the youngest ever world darts champion and clearly has the entire darts world at his feet.
Everything Littler touches these days turns to gold. But after winning his first world title, he now wants a rare break in an increasingly busy darts calendar. “I’ll be honest, World Darts Series it starts in Bahrain in a week or two weeks and I won’t be training until I go to Bahrain,” Littler explains to BBC Breakfast.
Immediately after winning the world title, Littler said he wouldn’t care if he didn’t win any major titles for the rest of the year now. But he clearly remains ambitious. “Yes, I hope it will be another year of big titles, I hope there will be more nine darters, but I mean it. If I don’t win anything, I will still choose the most important one.”
Luke Littler cries with the World Cup trophy in his hands
Meanwhile, his trophy case is becoming more and more impressive; the world title is his eleventh title in the PDC. “I think we might have to buy a special cabinet for this [the World Championship]. If not, it will just end up on the living room floor,” he says. “They [Littler’s family] they put all the hard work and effort into me, but only for them to get on stage with me and the trophy, but today is also my brother’s 21st birthday, so it was a good birthday gift for him. Of course my sister was in the crowd but she didn’t want to go on stage last night, but it’s just that all my family and friends from all over the world traveled to almost every game.
Littler also quietly realizes what he has done. “It’s probably not the normal life of a 17-year-old, but it shows what I’ve done for myself, remembering how my mom and dad put in the effort, got the right sponsors for me, and sponsors do a lot for me,” he concludes.
