During Sunday’s final round 2025 Sentry and Kapalua, Villa Zalatoris made a costly regulatory error. But not only for him.
On the 15th hole, both Zalatoris and his partner Cam Davis they mistakenly played the ball to each other on their third shots on the par 5.
This meant that both players had to not only retake their third shots, but also take a two-shot penalty, which proved very costly in one of the PGA Tour’s eight signature events.
“It’s going to be expensive,” NBC analyst Mark Rolfing said.
Oh yes, it was Rolf.
Before Zalatoris finished the competition, he was in 28th place with a payout of around 150,000. dollars. If he had managed to hit those two shots, he would have finished 14th, which means a payout of around $300,000. dollars, which cost him more than half of his weekly salary.
Two shots for Davis would knock him out of 14th place in the top 10, costing him nearly $275,000. dollars.
This just goes to show that when millions of dollars are at stake, a simple mistake can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
