Tiger Woods already has the best shot in TGL’s very short history.

Tiger Woods didn’t play on Tuesday night when he and Rory McIlroy’s a very crazy golf league in a simulatorDATE, he finally flew away to mixed reviews.
Of course, the 15-time major champion was there to see his and McIlroy’s vision come to life at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Woods watched as Bay Golf Club routed New York Golf Club 9-2, and he even gave a lackluster mid-game CEO-style interview in the TV booth. (Never change professional golf.)
But while Woods didn’t hit it on Tuesday night – his debut is next Tuesday – he has, unsurprisingly, already hit the best shot in TGL’s short history.
A video posted to TGL’s X account showed Woods detailing to McIlroy and TGL CEO and co-founder Mike McCarley how he hit the small camera above the simulator’s giant screen the first time.
Golf fans will now be talking about the TGL camera footage in the same breath as Woods’ birdie at the 2005 Masters and his putt that advanced to the 2008 US Open playoffs. I joke, but it’s always fun to watch Cat in action, regardless of the setting.
As for TGL, its debut involved a fan-pleasing rule change, some corporate activations, an unnecessary interview with DJ Khaled, and poor golf from the New York Golf Club (Rickie Fowler, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Xander Schauffele).
The best thing for TGL on the first night was the pace of play, the players’ commitment to every shot and the opportunity to show more of their personality, and that – for better or worse – gave golf fans a feeling that is too rare outside the four majors and the Ryder Cup.
Time will tell whether TGL will be able to keep people interested or if interest will wane after Woods and McIlory debut in the coming weeks.
