Premier League: Crown Prosecution Service reviewing evidence in relation to footballer arrested on suspicion of rape | Football News

The Crown Prosecution Service is reviewing evidence files relating to a Premier League footballer arrested on suspicion of rape.

A 30-year-old man is accused of sexual offenses between 2021 and 2023. The Metropolitan Police have now forwarded their files to the CPS and the player is under investigation.

The footballer denies the allegations.

A spokesman for the force said: “Met officers are investigating a number of reports of alleged sexual offenses between 2021 and 2023.

“The full file has been handed over to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and detectives continue to engage with prosecutors.

“Those who have reported to the police continue to receive support from Met officers.”

The unnamed player was first arrested in July 2022 in connection with rape allegations made by a woman in her 20s.

While in custody, he was subsequently arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a second woman in April 2021 and June of the same year.

The Metropolitan Police said it would take no further action over the alleged incident, which took place in June 2021, as the relevant legislation had not come into force at that time.

In February 2023, police interviewed a cautioned man in connection with an alleged sexual offense that allegedly occurred in Barnet, north London, in February 2022.

According to the police, it concerns the third complainant and was reported in July 2022.

Officers interviewed the Premier League footballer again, under caution, in November 2024.

The CPS will now decide how to proceed based on the case file provided by the Metropolitan Police. It is not known when a decision will be made.
