Horrible news: Jose Mourinho ‘unlikely to start’ at Everton
according to telegraphEverton’s hopes of signing Mourinho are “non-starters” and they are more likely to pursue former manager David Moyes, who has been out of work since leaving West Ham United last summer.
In fact, Mourinho was sacked as Roma coach by his new owners Everton last January.
Graham Potter is an option for the Toffees but he has just replaced Moyes’ successor at West Ham United, Julen Lopetegui.
This means Moyes is “expected to be strongly considered”. The Scot managed Everton from 2002 to 2013 before taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

“There is a long list. I think one name we can rule out now is Jose Mourinho,” he said.
“Our understanding is there is no connection. I don’t think it’s the right time for Everton.
“One name that stands out is David Moyes. I spoke to him a few weeks ago and his attitude at the time was that he didn’t need to take on a club that was fighting for relegation.
“At the same time, Everton means a lot to him and if an offer comes it might be difficult to refuse.
“Another name that has been linked is Lee Carsley. If Moyes joins, there are rumors that Carsley could become his assistant.
“Paulo Fonseca worked under owners at Everton but ended up losing his job under those same owners like Jose Mourinho.”
