Los Angeles Lakers Coach JJ Redick reportedly lost his home in the devastating Palisades Fire in Los Angeles many reports on Thursday.
On Thursday, Redick said his family members were among the victims Southern California was forced to evacuate its homes on Tuesday due to wildfires which was whipped by strong winds around Los Angeles.
A fire ripped through the Los Angeles hillside where Redick lives with other stars, burning homes in Pacific Palisades and ordering tens of thousands of people to evacuate.
Before the Lakers faced the Mavericks in Dallas, Redick knew the severity of the situation affecting his family and neighbors.
“I just want to say thank you and send thoughts and prayers to everyone at Palisades,” Redick said before Lakers lost 118-97 to the Mavericks. “That’s where I live.
“Our family, my wife’s family and my wife’s twin sister were evacuated. I know a lot of people are panicking right now, including my family. Judging by the sounds of things and the wind coming in (Tuesday evening), I guess I know a lot of people are scared, so I just want to acknowledge it and pray about it and hope everyone stays safe.
The Lakers’ home game against the Charlotte Hornets scheduled for Thursday took place postponed to a later date.
Officials did not provide an exact number of structures damaged or destroyed Pacific Palisades fire, but it said about 30,000 residents were ordered to evacuate and more than 13,000 buildings were at risk.
The fire broke out around 10:30 a.m., shortly after starting around Saint Ana windstorm that the National Weather Service warned could be “life-threatening” and the strongest to hit Southern California in more than a decade. Authorities said the exact cause of the fire was unknown and no injuries were reported.
Winds were expected to increase overnight and continue for several days, producing isolated gusts that could reach speeds of up to 100 mph in the mountains and foothills, including in areas that have not seen significant rainfall for months.
