NEW YORK — Sam Carrick scored in overtime and Igor Shesterkin made 21 saves to help New York beat New Jersey.
At 2:48 of overtime, Carrick received a pass from Riley Smith and past Devils netminder Jacob Markstrom.
Carrick’s third goal of the season gave Rangers a much-needed home win ahead of three away games.
Adam Fox and Artemi Panarin also scored for the Rangers, who have won two of their last three games.
Jesper Bratt and Jack Hughes scored for the Devils, who lost for the fifth time in their last six games.
After Fox scored on a power play at 12:05 of the first quarter, Hughes scored his 16th point at 4:03 of the second quarter.
Blatt gave New Jersey the lead at 8:28, firing a high shot past Shesterkin for his 15th goal. Hughes helped the team score the 50th point.
PHILADELPHIA — Casey DeSmith knocked down 27 shots to lead the Dallas Stars to a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night for their sixth straight victory.
The Stars continued their climb up the Western Conference standings with their seventh win in eight games. Maverick Bourque and Roope Hintz scored in the first period. Wyatt Johnston made it 3-0 in the second inning.
Miro Heiskanen scored an empty-netter in the third period to help the Stars win for the ninth time in their past 11 games in Philadelphia through March 27, 2018.
Morgan Frost scored the only goal for the Flyers. The Flyers, who now have just 17 wins and just nine in the regular season, were forced to hear “Eagles! Eagles!” chants from the dwindling crowd in the final moments of another loss.
PITTSBURGH — Sidney Crosby had a goal and two assists, and Pittsburgh beat Connor McDavid and Edmonton on the NHL career scoring list Ranked ninth.
The Penguins captain tied with Hall of Famer Joe Sakic with 1,641 points thanks to an assist on Brian Rust’s first-period goal. Crosby then assisted Drew O’Connor for his sixth goal of the season, giving the Penguins a 4-1 lead.
Rust also scored a goal and provided two assists for Pittsburgh, which defeated the Oilers for the first time since December 20, 2019, ending a three-game losing streak. Alex Nedelkovic had 40 blocks for the Penguins, and Rickard Rucker had a team-high as Pittsburgh won with center Evgeni Malkin injured. The 21st goal.
McDavid finished with three assists. Leon Draisaitl scored twice to lift his season total to an NHL-best 31 points, but the Penguins beat Stuart Skinner four times in the first 14 minutes . Skinner ended up making 21 saves, but it wasn’t enough, and the Penguins ended Edmonton’s four-game winning streak.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Denton Matchuk and Luka Delber-Beluz, both recently called up by the American Hockey League, had a goal and an assist each in Columbus’ win over Seattle.
Zach Werenski also added a goal and an assist to extend his home winning streak to 16 games and help the Blue Jackets win their third straight game.
Sean Kuraly, Kent Johnson and Kirill Marchenko also scored. James van Riemsdyk had two assists and Elvis Merzlikins made 29 saves for Columbus. Matechuk’s goal was the first of his NHL career.
Eli Tolvanen scored twice for Seattle, which has lost four straight. Philipp Grubauer stopped 14 shots before being replaced by Joey Daccord late in the second quarter, returning from an upper-body injury he suffered on Dec. 22 against the Colorado Avalanche. He saved all four shots in the first game.
TAMPA, Fla. — Brayden Point reached 600 career points with a power-play goal, Andrei Vasilevskiy made 27 saves, Tampa Bay Defeat Boston.
Brandon Hagel had a goal and an assist, and Michael Eyssimont and Anthony Cirelli scored 5:03 into the second period. The score was split between goals and two assists from Ryan McDonagh.
Tampa Bay has won two games in a row after a slump. The Chargers leapfrogged the Bruins into third place in the Atlantic Division.
Mason Lohrei scored for Boston and Jeremy Swayman made 27 saves. The Bruins are 0-5-1 in their past six games.
Hurricanes 6, Maple Leafs 3
RALEIGH, N.C. — Jordan Staal scored a hat trick to lead Carolina to a win over Toronto.
Eric Robinson, Jackson Black and Seth Jarvis also scored for the Hurricanes, while Peter Kochetkov stopped 30 shots in his first home game since Dec. 17 victory.
Nicholas Robertson, William Nylander and Auston Matthews have won five straight for Toronto. Joseph Wall made 28 saves.
The Maple Leafs took an early 2-0 lead, but the Hurricanes tied the game at 2 on Staal’s first goal with 5:45 left in the first period. Starr scored to take a 3-2 lead 35 seconds into the second quarter, and Carolina extended its lead to 5-3 20 seconds into the third quarter.
OTTAWA, Ontario — Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 35 saves, Jack Quinn scored twice and Buffalo spoiled Ottawa with a victory Homecoming trip for the Senators.
Dylan Cozens and Ryan McLeod also scored for the Sabers.
Anton Forsberg stopped 17 shots for Ottawa. The Senators return to the Canadian Tire Center after nine games and nearly a month away for the World Junior Hockey Championship.
Quinn scored the first goal in the middle of the first quarter, opening the scoring for the team. After the game, he received a pass from Peyton Krebs and walked out of the penalty area to make it 2-0, his seventh knockout of the season.
British stone. PAUL, Minn. — Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and an NHL-leading 53 assists this season to help Colorado beat Minnesota.
Mikko Rantanan and Logan O’Connor also had a goal and an assist each, while Ross Colton, Parker Kelly and Artturi Raikkonen also scored, with Mackenzie Blackwood doing the scoring. Made 24 saves.
Zach Bogosian scored for the Wild for the second straight game. Filip Gustafsson stopped 21 of 27 shots.
Leading 2-1 in the second quarter, McKinnon passed the ball into the slot on a 2-on-2 sprint. Rantanen’s wrist shot went past Gustafsson on screen for his 25th goal of the season.
Rantanen returned the favor as MacKinnon scored Colorado’s third goal at 4:25 of the third period to give his team a 6-1 lead.
British stone. LOUIS — Robert Thomas scored twice and St. Louis defeated Anaheim.
Jordan Kyrou and Pavel Buchnevich each had a goal and an assist, while Tyler Tucker and Dylan Holloway also scored for St. Louis. Brayden Schenn dished out two assists and Joel Hofer stopped 22 shots.
Nikita Nesterenko and Sam Colangelo scored for the Ducks. Lucas Dostal allowed six goals on 22 shots before being replaced midway through the second period. John Gibson stopped all 12 shots he faced.
The Blues scored three of their first six shots, with Thomas, Tucker and Kyrou scoring in the first 6 minutes and 40 seconds of the game. The Blues’ fourth goal was Holloway’s 13th shot with 6:05 left in the first period.
Thomas scored again at 4:45 of the second quarter, and Buchnevich rewritten the score to 6-1 at 8:02. That was the end of Dostal’s night.
Colangelo scored his first goal of the season and second of his career with 5:22 left in midfield to tie the game.
Islanders 4, Golden Knights 0
LAS VEGAS — Captain Anders Lee scored in his 800th career game and Ilya Sorokin made 30 saves to help New York beat Vegas.
It was the second time this season that the Islanders were eliminated. The other occurred on Nov. 30, the same day the Golden Knights were last blanked. This is Sorokin’s second shutout this season and the 20th in his career.
Lee became the 10th player in franchise history to reach 800 games and the first to score a goal while reaching this milestone.
Brock Nelson had a goal and an assist, and Bo Horvat and Matthew Barzal also scored for the Islanders. Alexander Romanov had two assists.
Aden Hill stopped 17 shots for the Golden Knights.
