Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou confirmed the midfielder’s presence Rodrigo Bentancura suffered a concussion during the team’s match Carabao Cup semi-final victory Liverpool on Wednesday.
Bentancur collapsed on the pitch in the sixth minute of the competition and was taken off on a stretcher eight minutes later. He was then immediately taken to hospital for tests.
The Uruguay The 27-year-old Polish representative was trying to head the ball after a corner kick when the incident occurred.
“Fortunately, good news – of course he was in hospital and they did all the tests to make sure everything was OK. And yes, he’s fine, he’s back home and he’s fine, he’s feeling fine,” Postecoglou said in a statement video posted by Spurs on X.
“Of course we will follow the protocols now, in a few weeks we will have to make sure everything is OK, but fortunately it looks like a concussion but nothing more than that.”
The Australian coach praised his players for the way they handled the incident.
“It was disturbing and you saw it, especially Pedro [Porro] who was there first and kind of knew it was a disturbing situation,” he said. “But I think the guys handled it well, the medical team handled it well and, like I said, luckily he’s OK.”
Spurs travel to Minnows Tamworth on Sunday for an FA Cup third round match. Tamworth plays in the National League, the fifth tier of English football.
