Louisiana State Police have issued an arrest warrant for the former man LSU receiver Kyren Lacyaccused of causing a fatal accident on December 17 in which a 78-year-old man died and then fleeing the scene without providing help or calling the authorities.
Louisiana State Police said Friday that Lacy will be charged with negligent homicide, hit-and-run and reckless driving.
Police said they contacted Lacy and his attorney to have him turn himself in.
According to a press release from State Police, Lacy was allegedly driving a 2023 Dodge Charger on Louisiana Highway 20 and “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed, crossing the center line and entering the northbound lane while within a designated no-passing zone.”
“As Lacy was illegally passing other vehicles, the driver of the northbound pickup truck braked abruptly and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the oncoming Dodge,” a press release from the Louisiana State Police said.
“The pickup truck was followed by a 2017 Kia Cadenza, and the driver swerved left to avoid an oncoming Dodge Charger. As the Kia Cadenza took evasive action to avoid hitting the Dodge, it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento. “
Police alleged that Lacy, 24, drove around the crash site and fled “without stopping to render aid, call emergency services or report her involvement in the accident.”
Herman Hall, 78, of Thibodaux, Louisiana, who was a passenger in the Kia Sorrento, later died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to state police.
Police said the drivers of the Cadenza and Sorento also suffered moderate injuries.
Lacy played two seasons at Louisiana before transferring to LSU in 2022. Last season, he had 58 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns, and on December 19, two days after the accident, he declared for the NFL draft.
