Los Angeles wildfires that have spread through the area could change PGA Tour plans for next month’s Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club.
The Palisades Fire, which started Tuesday, is already the most destructive in Los Angeles history, according to the Wildfire Alliance.
Pacific Palisades is home to the Riviera Country Club, where the competition takes place Genesis Invitationthe Tour’s signature event hosted by Tiger Woods.
On Thursday, the Tour sent players a note informing them that it had not made a decision on a potential postponement of the Genesis date or location.
“At this time, it is premature to discuss the potential impact on the Genesis Invitational,” the Tour said in a memo. “While the wildfires have not directly impacted Riviera Country Club, our immediate concern is the health and well-being of residents of affected communities, including all of our members with ties to Southern California. We will keep membership updated as the situation develops.”
Multiple fires are still raging in the Los Angeles area.
According to the Associated Press, fires have already broken out over 10,000 objects and killed at least 10 people. The Palisades Fire has burned more than 30 square miles and is only 8 percent contained. About 180,000 people are evacuated. The fires spread over an area larger than the city of San Francisco.
The fires have already affected other sports leagues. The NBA postponed the Los Angeles Lakers game to Thursday night, and the NFL moved Monday’s NFC wild-card game from SoFi Stadium in Englewood, California, to Glendale, Arizona.
