Stephen Bunting names his darting idol who he used to always look up to as a child

Darts has had some true legends over the years.

Eric Bristow was a hero to many fans in the 1980s, and Keith Deller shocked the world in 1983 when he won World Darts Championships as a qualifier.

Of course, he is the greatest legend in the history of darts Phil Taylor.

Phil Taylor idolizes Luke Littlerand, somehow, Taylor remains an unsung legend match, even though he was a 16-time world champion.

In a conversation on his YouTube channel, among others: Stephen Bunting was asked to name who he idolized growing up and, unsurprisingly, “The Bullet” named Taylor his idol.

Stephen Bunting idolized Phil Taylor

Bunting was asked to name his idol.

The Masters champion had no hesitation in choosing Taylor as his hero growing up, insisting he was a born winner who is still talked about today for what he achieved in the game.

“Who is your idol?” Bunting was asked.

“When I was growing up, my idol was Phil Taylor. What he did for the game, a 16-time world champion, such a born winner, and people still talk about his career and achievements to this day. He was definitely someone I looked up to as a little kid,” Bunting said.

They say never meet your heroes, but Bunting did more than that, he played against Taylor multiple times.

Indeed, when Bunting joined the PDC in 2014, Taylor was still in excellent form. In fact, he reached the World Championship finals that same year.

In total, Bunting faced Taylor 11 times in his career, and unfortunately for Bunting, the results were as one-sided as most players’ records against Taylor.

The Power is arguably the greatest player of all time and Bunting can tell you that first hand.

Bunting actually defeated Taylor in their only meeting in the televised league during the 2014 European Championships, with Bunting running out the winner 10-9.

It was a rare slip-up for Taylor in 2014, a year in which he won Grand Slams and the World Matchplay, but more often than not, Taylor outplayed Bunting.
