Nathan Aspinall warned his closest rivals Łukasz Małyr to get the money and escape before the next generation of stars inspired by him emerge.
Despite being criticized during the game for being too deferential, Aspinall spoke to talkSPORT, praising his stablemate’s influence, saying he doesn’t see him stopping and that all his rivals should be on guard.
Last year he became the youngest ever world champion when he beat Michael van Gerwen in Ally Pally and introduced a whole new generation to darts, which is why players like Aspinall are keen to get out quickly when they can get the money they need.
Aspinall, of course, is the ultimate rags-to-riches darts story, where Asp goes from penniless to one of the world’s top darts stars, and Littler did it overnight in his sleep, as Aspinall, as a young genius would like at the beginning of his meteoric career.
– I don’t see him stopping being honest with you. I’m probably one of his better mates on tour,” Aspinall told talkSPORT last week.
“Before the last year of the World Championships, when he got to the final, he trained at my house, so I’m quite close to Luke. I know what he can do on oche and I just don’t see him letting up.
“He is 17 years old and a world and Premier League champion. I don’t feel any nerves or pressure. I would like to be as good as him because he is very good.”
“What Luke Littler has done is unbelievable. Not only for us, but also for the younger generation. I just have to make money and leave, because in five years there will be so many kids who will beat us. But it’s amazing.”
