With the 2025 PGA Tour season in Hawaii now in full swing, anticipation for upcoming events is already building. What can we expect this year? On this week’s episode of Subpar, hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz made some bold predictions.
“I’ll take Luke Clanton playing on the U.S. Ryder Cup team as my bold prediction for 2025,” Stoltz said.
A bold approach indeed, but not entirely implausible. The top-ranked amateur, who currently plays collegiately for Florida State, nearly locked up his PGA Tour card through PGA Tour University last year, posting four top-10 finishes, including two runner-up finishes. Top 5 finish at the Sony Open this weekwhere he plays with sponsor approval would seal the deal on the face of the Tour card.
“Given his performance on the PGA Tour last year, he will have some starts and get some opportunities early this year,” Stoltz continued. “I don’t think it’s out of the question that he goes out there and wins something. He will not be present at the signing events. He’ll be playing, you know, other events.
“He’s getting close to doing it. I think once he wins and fights and plays well, dude, that guy will be on the team. I mean, if it’s number 11, 12, why wouldn’t you put a guy in there?
Clanton brings a lot to the table, Stoltz said.
“Great firepower, hits bombs, hits great,” he said. “It’s not impossible.”
Knost liked what Stoltz had to say, but he went in a different direction with his predictions.
“I want [2025] will be a year of positivity,” Knost said. “Good things will happen. It’s been a difficult few years for golf. So my bold prediction is this an agreement will be reachedWe will see LIV players playing in PGA Tour tournaments before the end of the year.
“I’m not saying it will happen right away,” Knost continued. “But before the season is over, we will see Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson playing on the PGA Tour. Everything will work out, everyone will be happy and it will be a great year 2025.
“I’m rooting for him a lot,” Stoltz replied.
Before we move on, Stoltz added one more prediction.
“David Puig on Europe [Ryder Cup] team,” he said.
“Yes, I like that one,” Knost replied. “I really think it’s going to happen.”
Regardless of who makes the U.S. and European teams this fall, one thing is certain: Both Knost and Stoltz predict that this year’s Ryder Cup will be an event for the ages.
“This is what I’m looking forward to most in 2025,” Stoltz said. – By the way, I think this could be a mess. But it will be fine.”
