The second night of TGL I activated the electric start when Tiger Woods entered the “Eye of the Tiger” using a smoke machine, but the simulator league had some difficulties when the Los Angeles Golf Club routed Woods’ Jupiter Links Golf Club 12-1.
While Woods headlined the night, his teammates Kevin Kisner and Max Homa stole the show. Homa, unsurprisingly, was the funniest of the six golfers, as his self- and team-deprecation led to some hilarious hot mic moments.
Homa’s commentary was the best part of TGL’s second match until Kisner hit a bunker shot that nearly cut the flag in half, making Woods double over with laughter.
Yes, Tour pros are just like us. Well, sometimes.
Kisner then nearly hit the resulting 57-foot inbounds shot to save par.
“It still hurts. I’m laughing so hard,” Woods said on the show broadcast after Kisner’s skull was struck. “I didn’t think anyone could get hurt here. He almost cleared the stands. It was growing, oh my God.
Homa, who was standing behind the struggling Kisner in the Jupiter lineup on Tuesday, attacked Kisner before he fired his final shot of the night.
As mentioned above, Homa was TGL’s bright spot on night two.
With Jupiter drunk and Kisner spending most of his time throwing the ball towards the hazard, Homa spent the evening showing why he was the perfect choice for a league that will rely on players showing personality.
Kisner also had his moments on the mic, including trying to go to the pen to get help from Tiger’s son, Charlie Woods.
The second evening of TGL had its flaws. This is normal for any startup.
However, Kisner’s bunker skull and Homa’s commentary show what this product can become: fun and unserious golf entertainment.
This is the plan for TGL.
