Liverpool Head coach Arne Slot said he “couldn’t ask for more” from his team against the title contenders Nottingham Forest.
Forest drew 1-1 with the league leaders at The City Ground on Tuesday evening Diogo Jota a header in the second half, erasing an early in-form goal Chris Wood.
Liverpool weren’t at their best against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side but are still six points clear at the top of the table. First league table, having played against many teams lower down, and Slot was quick to praise his players’ efforts after the match.
“I couldn’t ask for more today,” said the Dutchman. I think most people would be very positive about the second half, but when you play on that pitch against a team that is in such good form, they don’t concede chances every game and have so many counter-attack threats.
“We only conceded one counter-attack in 98 minutes of the match today. It’s total domination.”
He added: “We are losing 1-0 and it is very difficult to score against this team. This is not what we wanted. We wanted three points, but what I want, and what the fans and the players should want, is for them to give their all in every game they play, and that’s what they did today.
It was another impressive performance from Forest, although goalkeeper Mats Selz was forced into action several times in the second half to prevent an attack. Whom AND Cody Steel.
Asked if he saw Forest as a real title challenger, Slot said: “I don’t think they’re here because of luck. They are difficult for any team to play against. They have already played some difficult away games against [Manchester] United, [Man] City, Arsenalus.
– This shows that this is a team that can compete in the upper part of the league table.
Slot’s opponent had the same opinion about his surprise Forest Side’s performance and applauded the fans for the “special atmosphere” they created that night.
“Tonight was a lesson for us because this is how we want to compete,” Nuno said. “I’m very proud of how we played.
“There was a special atmosphere tonight. “I’m not looking at the league table at this stage, we have to keep playing.”
