Spotted: Fujikura Ventus HB hybrid shafts with VeloCore+

The Fujikura Ventus shafts dominated the bags on the tours… and the bags of us regular golfers (just look at our Members Choice voting). We spotted three new Ventus windows in American Express this week, but they’re not intended for drivers. They appear to be the new Ventus HB shafts designed for hybrids, drive irons and utility irons. Right now, Fujikura only offers the Ventus HB in black and blue options, but it looks like these new shafts feature the same three profiles as the wood shafts. Fujikura has added VeloCore+ technology to the new Ventus HB to increase stability and ball speed. All versions have a matching matte finish that the wooden versions have.

Ventus HB Red

This is a new addition to the Ventus HB range and should offer the highest launch and spin. I think this shaft makes sense for us regular golfers since most of us add a hybrid to the bag to replace a long iron that we don’t really hit very high. I’m not sure about the shaft profile yet, but the redwood shaft has a stiff handle and a soft tip for a higher trajectory.

Ventus HB Blue

An update to the current Ventus HB Blue, this new version adds a VeloCore+ core and a lighter blue paint. Blue should be a mid-range, low-spin option and may have the softest grip of the three. We don’t have Fujikura’s exact specs yet, but we’re basing this speculation on the current shaft. We see 8X, 9X and 10X weights here, but it will be interesting to see additional bends and lighter options when the shaft hits retail.

Ventus HB Black

The lowest starting and spinning version of the Ventus HB line, the Black, tends to have a very strong profile. The current Ventus HB Black model has a very stiff handle and tip to control launch and spin for fast players. The current version is also only available in 9X and 10X, but we see the Black 8X here, so maybe Fujikura will extend the weight and flexibility of the Ventus HB Black for us regular golfers.
