Michael van Gerwen is a huge setback this week in Bahrain, as the recent World Championship finalist was unable to play in the Middle East at the opening of the World Series of Darts due to a previously scheduled vacation.
One that he still shares photos of on his social media. He is currently in Thailand and returns home next weekend to compete in the Dutch Darts Masters.
He shared photos of himself and his family on the famous Pig Island. The island known as Koh Madsum. It is run by one man who, along with his wife and family, runs a small beach bar on the island and sees a community of pigs, as the name suggests, living on this isolated island.
“The treasure hunt took us to Pig Island. Thailand continues to surprise us,” he wrote after sharing photos of his family on the beach and pool most days before heading to Pig Island.
Back home, Van Gerwen will have plenty to do as he plays in Den Bosch before heading to Milton Keynes for the Winmau World Masters tournament. So this is an obligation for him in the Premier League, so he spends his time wisely.
His close friend Vincent van der Voort also agreed with an element of rest over the next few weeks.
“He is going on holiday, then only a dart board will come to him from the sponsor Winmau. If he’s smart, he’ll play an hour every two days,” Van der Voort said on the Darts Draait Door podcast. “If you do nothing now for two weeks, you will be back to square one. Usually you can easily take a break for two weeks, but not now. Everything is rebuilding. It wasn’t good enough before. “
“Get some rest” – Van der Voort is clear. Next up will be the Premier League, Pro Tour, Euro Tours and UK Open. Before you know it, it will be June and you will be completely broken again. Rest is really good and he deserves it now, you just have to keep up with training.”
