Defending champions India started their Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup campaign in style with a nine-wicket victory over the West Indies at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
India, winning the toss, opted to bowl. After winning 44 runs against Windies in the first innings, India defeated the team in 4.2 overs.
The Indians showed comprehensive work with the ball and in the field to take control of the match.
Joshitha VJ opened the deadlock for India by defeating West Indies captain Samara Ramnath in the second over. The pacer then followed up the second wicket and sent Naijanni Cumberbatch back to the pavilion for a duck.
Spin duo Aayushi Shukla and Parunika Sisodia joined the party as India tightened their grip on the Group A match. Sisodia completed the attack with three wickets.
The Indian fielders also rose to the occasion, leading to a three-run over, with the Windies batsmen unable to forge a partnership.
Coming out on the attack, Trisha G fell early after scoring just four points, but Kamalini G and Sanika Chalke saw India’s chase turn out to be easy for the defending champions.
