La Liga side Real Betis are leading the race to sign Manchester United winger Antony on loan for the rest of the season.
The Brazilian has failed to justify his status as United’s second most expensive player in history.
Antony cost £81.3 million United signed him in August 2022. Since then, he has scored 12 goals, three of which came in his first three Premier League games.
The 24-year-old has scored one Premier League goal since April 2023 and his first-team chances have dwindled – from 23 league appearances in his first year to 15 last season and none this campaign.
Antony has featured in just 13 of United’s 32 games in all competitions this season.
Against Southampton on Thursday, he missed a golden opportunity from Alejandro Garnacho’s cross and managed to put the ball back to goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale despite having an empty-net goal to achieve.
Many clubs inquired about Antony and United realized they would have to subsidize his salary.
Talks are most advanced with Betis, who are 11th in the La Liga table and are set to play in the Conference League play-offs against Belgian side Gent next month, with the club hoping to strike a deal, although nothing has been agreed.
