It is said that Manchester United is getting closer to its first signing, Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils, who were beaten 3-1 by Brighton just 24 hours ago, have had huge problems on the left side of the pitch over the last 18 months, mainly due to injuries suffered mainly by Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Diogo Dalot, naturally a right-back, took over to provide cover, but even he was unable to adapt to Amorim’s needs in a 3-4-2-1. One player is said to be getting closer to joining Manchester United this month, with his agent providing his own cryptic tip.
Patrick Dorgu’s agent releases airport updates as Manchester United close to signing contract
Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu – 19th in the ranking FourFourTwo list of the most exciting teens to watch this season – he is said to be close to a January transfer to Manchester United, according to transfer specialist David Ornstein.
His agent, Kingsley Ogbodo, also appears to have dropped a huge hint about the proceedings, sharing on Instagram that he was at Manchester Airport on Monday morning.
Dorgu is still in Italy after Lecce’s 4-1 defeat to Caligari on Monday, and the 20-year-old played 90 minutes for Marco Giampaolo’s team in Serie A. The youngster has scored three goals and one assist in 20 appearances this season.
The Denmark representative signed a new contract in October, valid until 2028, and its value is estimated at around £40 million. Manchester United want the Lecce defender to be their first signing in January.
Elsewhere, Tyrell Malacia is not feeling well at Old Trafford and there are rumors he will go out on loan this month. The Dutch star had just returned from a long spell on the bench but had featured sporadically under Amorim.
“We don’t have that option in January,” Amorim said in December when asked about that month’s transfers. “You know the situation better than me [do]. It’s not like I don’t come here and I can spend a lot of money changing the whole team. You know the situation, so there’s no point in talking about it.
IN FourFourTwo In my opinion, Dorgu seems to be the type of signing that Manchester United need to solve their endless problems on the left side of the pitch. We expect Luke Shaw to leave the club in the summer months due to his injury problems in recent years.
Manchester United will host Rangers in… Europa League on Thursday, awaiting a response.
